Overhead Mount Magnetic Switches work similar to relays, closing an electrical contact in the presence of a magnetic field. A nearby magnetic field from either an electromagnet or permanent magnet pulls one contact against the other, closing the switch. When the magnetic field is removed, the spring action in the stiff metal contacts opens the connection. Because the thin contacts have low mass, they can operate up to 10 times faster than conventional relays with similar ratings.

The 1L-MSM-112 is a surface mount reed switch that operates through magnetic activation. When the supplied magnet approaches the switch body, the internal reed contacts change their electrical state depending on the selected configuration. This model is available in Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), and NO/NC (changeover) variants, allowing system designers to choose the exact switching logic required for their application.
